PANARKATI FESTIVAL
EVENT RULES & GUIDELINES

Deity Lectures/Panel Discussions (Come Listen; Come Learn; Come Share)
  • All attendees will gather in the Meeting Hall in the Temple of IceMule and be guided by an official Festival host to the appropriate venue for the lecture/discussion about to take place. Please respect the host's instructions.
  • Please keep fidgeting to a minimum. No spell-casting of any kind and keep all side conversations to whispers. The speakers deserve your attention.
  • Remember this is a forum for discussion and debate, not rudeness and oneupmanship. No heckling or harassing will be tolerated. Anyone indulging in such activities is subject to removal from the room.
  • The initial lecture is the speaker's time. Please let him or her finish before commenting. There will be time for questions and remarks.
  • The panel leader will decide the format for opening the floor to questions, comments, discussion, etc. Please follow the format each individual leader is comfortable using.
  • Each lecture/panel is being alloted a timeframe of an hour-and-a-quarter.

Body & Soul Opening Reception and Life & Spirit Closing Reception (Come Listen; Come Share)
  • These are social gatherings. Enjoy yourselves, but no offensive spell-casting.
  • A selection of refreshments will be provided free of course.
  • "Songs of the Arkati" will performed at random intervals by various entertainers for the enjoyment of the company.

Show And Tell the Arkati Way (Come Listen; Come Learn; Come Share)
  • Entrant Limit: 10
  • Each entrant will be shown an item associated in some way with a diety. (10 different items; no repeats.)
  • Entrants as a group will then be allotted ten minutes to decide to what deity they will relate their objects and how, as well as consider how they would begin a round-robin story in that vein.
  • By random draw, a participant will then be selected to begin a collaborative tale, using not more than a half-dozen sentences.
  • By random draw, the story will then be handed off to another participant, who must continue the tale and work in his/her object and related deity also using not more than six sentences.
  • The handing off will continue by random draw until all participants have contributed to the tale. This will constitute a round.
  • There will be six rounds in total, with positions in every round continuing by random draw, not initial order, and the six sentence rule per participant in force for each round.
  • The judge will score on a point system of 10.
  • First 3 points will have to do with correctly relating an item to a deity. Some items can be related to more than one deity. For a correctly identified object, the judge will score no less than 2 of the 3 points in this category. The judge may score 1 of these first 2 points if the relationship is questionable, but a good case is made for by the statements of the participant. The remaining 1 point can be scored at the judge's discretion, since some relationships are more obscure. There will be no half-point scoring within this first 3 point spread.
  • The remaining 7 points will be awarded for the creativity used in working the object and related Arkati into the collaborative tale of the group. Half-point scoring will be admissible within this second 7 point spread. There will be a mandatory .5 deduction to the 7 point spread score if in any round the participant went over the six sentence maximum for their section of the tale. However, such mandatory deduction need only be applied once to the overall score. Thus, if in one round a contestant used seven sentences, and in another round eight sentences, that contestant need only be penalized an overall .5 in creativity score. At the judge's discretion, any contestant who consistently runs over the sentence limits in rounds can receive a further penalty beyond the mandatory .5.
  • Highest total scores, as determined by the judge, will determine the three medal positions. The decision of the judge will be final.
  • No actual scores will be released to any entrant.

Who Am I? (Come Learn; Come Share)
  • Entrant Limit: 12
  • The contest will run in three rounds. Each round will be scored "fresh", and consist of ten questions regarding lore of various deities. (Well-known player-created lore and lore from Arkati-related in-game events may be used as well as official documentation.)
  • During each round: Judge will group whisper a question. Each entrant will respond in private whisper to the judge. Correct answer scores a point.
  • Top six scorers from Round 1 advance to Round 2.
  • Top three scorers from Round 2 advance to Round 3.
  • Those in Round 3 will compete for the medal positions.
  • In the event of a tie, judge will use a "tie-breaker" question or series of questions to make determination of a "winner".
  • The scores in the final round will determine medal position. Decision of the judge is final.
  • No actual scores will be released to any entrant.

Dance Contests (Come Learn; Come Share; Come Worship)
Fancy Footwork to Cholen and Sultry Swaying to Ivas
  • Entrant Limit: 12
  • Entrants will perform a temple dance of no more than 12 minutes in length.
  • Scripting/macro'ing is allowed.
  • Please remember, though temple dancing to Ivas would naturally be suggestive, that nothing lewd or obscene will be permitted.
  • Performance order will be determined by random draw.
  • Judges will score each performance in three categories: Creativity, Presentation and Appropriateness.
  • Creativity involves the content of the dance itself.
  • Presentation involves mechanical things like spelling and grammar, as well as whether an action is within the reign of the "possible". (Someone flying with wings about in the air during a dance would, for instance, rate a low score on Presentation.) Deductions for running overtime on a performance will come under the Presentation score. The mandatory deduction for any dance running overtime will be .5. For each two minutes over the time limit a performance runs, an additional .5 will be deducted from the Presentation score.
  • Appropriateness involves how well the performance translates as religious worship through dance.
  • The high score in each category will be 10. Half-point scoring will be allowed.
  • Highest total scores will determine medal positions, with the decision of the judges final.
  • In the event of a tie, Creativity will be considered the tie-breaking category.
  • No actual scores will be released to any entrant.

Associations Storytelling (Come Listen; Come Share)
  • This is a free-form event to come and "tell your own" tale regarding how you came to honor your deity, why you do so, how has affected your life in Elanthia, etc.
  • There will be no timing limits, but please remember to be considerate of others and keep "tales" within a reasonable timespan.
  • This will not be a question-and-answer session. If you have questions for someone after their tale, save it for private discussion please. This is so we can move on to the next person who wants to share a personal tale regarding "association" with a deity and religion.
  • Tell your tale however works for you, so scripting and macro'ing are allowed of course.
  • Please, nothing lewd or obscene.
  • Please keep fidgeting to a minimum and no spell-casting.
  • No harassing or heckling of a speaker will be tolerated.
  • Each speaker will receive a special memento.

Dicing for Tonis (Come Share; Come Worship)
  • All attendees will gather in the Meeting Hall in the Temple of IceMule and be guided by an official Festival host to the appropriate venue for the dice game. Please respect the host's instructions.
  • As this is a sponsored dice game to be held in Tonis' honor, Festival organizers ask that you come prepared with coin in your pocket and an attitude of good sportmanship.
  • The rules, as detailed by the officiant (celebrant) are detailed below:

      Tonis is the Arkati of chance, fortune, whim and messages. As such, he favors those who are quick, is a soft touch, and just may grant your wish of wealth. Here is your chance to honor him in a game of dice.

    1. The entry fee is 10,000 silvers.
    2. Winnings will be distributed as follows:
      • 1st place: 40% of the total entry fees plus a set of Darynth’s dice.
      • 2nd place: 20% of the total entry fees.
      • 3rd place: 10% of the total entry fees.
    3. Dice will be provided by the celebrant, and a player may only use these celebrant-provided dice. They will be sets of five dice that the player may keep after the completion of the dice game.
    4. As Tonis’ whim varies with every gust of the wind, the game will be double elimination.
    5. Each player will roll against another player. The winner shall be awarded a win and the loser shall be awarded a loss. Two losses eliminates a player.
    6. Rolls will be judged in this way:
      • 5 of a kind beats a full house;
      • a full house beats 4 of a kind;
      • 4 of a kind beats a large straight (five dice in consecutive numbers);
      • a large straight beats 3 of a kind;
      • 3 of a kind beats a small straight (four dice in consecutive numbers);
      • a small straight beats two pair;
      • two pair beat one pair;
      • a pair beats a nothing roll;
      • if two people roll nothing, the one with the highest total number of the roll wins.
    7. These are the established rules of play for this particular dice game and, though perhaps a bit unorthodox, Tonis is not to be second-guessed. Thus the game will be judged fairly *according to these rules and these rules only*.
    8. The celebrant’s decisions are final.
    9. If any perspective player is uncomfortable with these rules, the best decision is not to play.
