Urutei's Failed Prophecy

Urutei's Failed Prophecy
for IceMule Trace
in River's Rest

Day of the Huntress, day 9 of the month Ivastaen in the year 5103

************EDITOR'S NOTE************
This log is the merely the piecing together of things cut and pasted from the screen during the course of the event by several sources and subsequently sent to me.
************END NOTE************

[River's Rest]

***Prior to this, Urutei apparently took some herbs from one of her containers, and in some way was talking to them. She stationed herself at the telescope in RR and, though others saw only what was normally seen from the telescope (the telescope image in the log is what is standardly seen through it), Urutei was seeing more in her mind's eye at least.***

You put your eye up to the telescope and peer into it...
Several large stone buildings protrude up through the bramble forest. Many of them appear blackened and deserted. In one area the forest has been entirely burned away. An occasional pillar of flame erupts from the charred ground.

Urutei softly says in Giantman, "It starts simply... a shift in weight... the sound of ice crackling, like the snarl of a wolf... and then the sound of ice falling, like bells...".

***TECHNICAL NOTE: Nothing at all was heard in the vicinity of IceMule Trace.***

Urutei says in Giantman, "Plates of ice, each thicker than my arms, slide slowly over one another into the pine tree. Some plates break, and part for the tree... some branches break, and part for the ice..."

Urutei says in Giantman, "It continues, the cracking, the sliding, bit by bit... and every plate of ice carves into the trunk of the tree. A deer could run faster than this, or even a man."

Urutei says in Giantman, "A tree cannot run..."

Urutei frustratedly exclaims in Giantman, "I told them! Owl, I did all I could!"

Urutei clenches both her fists tightly together and rocks back and forth, trembling violently, as she stares up at the wavering line of blue light traced through the night sky.

Urutei wearily says in Giantman, "Take it back. Make it be not so."

***Here apparently she was talking to something or someone no one else there could see, seemingly in some sort of trance state.***

Urutei wearily says in Giantman, "Anything..."

Urutei hesitantly asks in Giantman, "Truly? It could be so?

Urutei twitches oddly, shaking her head like a horse trying to shake a fly away, and then her trembling slowly subsides.

Urutei says in Giantman, "No... it..."

Urutei frowns.

Urutei says in Giantman, "There is a reprieve... of sorts."

Urutei smiles faintly.

Urutei says in Giantman, "I have a task to complete."

Urutei says in Giantman, "If I cannot do it... then all I have seen, will already have been, even as I saw it tonight."

Urutei says in Giantman, "If I can... then it will have been as if Icemule never died."

***TECHNICAL NOTE: Nothing at all happened in IceMule.***

Urutei quietly says in Giantman, "If you would aid me... gather skins. I will need one from every kind of beast from the lower edge of the glacier to the shores of Solhaven, if it can be done... begged, bought, borrowed, or worse."

***ADDITIONAL NOTE: Urutei had originally asked for skins before the "nearly naked march south" from IceMule, but then seemed to forget about this requirement.***

Urutei says in Giantman, "Hooves, teeth, eyes, pelts... whatever can be cut from a beast. Warm-blooded beasts alone."

Urutei says in Giantman, "I must make a house for the spirits, to make them welcome... but that is only part of the task."

Urutei says in Giantman, "There is at least a week..."

Urutei quietly says in Giantman, "Good night."

Urutei climbed a long narrow trail.
